I think he's playing this thing to the fullest. I wondered if he was insane or a genius. I think he's playing this as a genius. He is getting tons of publicity that he is going to parlay into a major pay day.
The guy received more than 1 million followers on twitter... in less than 24 hours!!!
I don't doubt he's aware people are hanging on every word he says, but I believe the guy is a nut, really crazy. Yeah he's getting publicity, but it's not great publicity, he was the highest paid person on tv...now the show was canceled because of him. He'd get paid on just speaking, but as for career wise? This IMO hurts him big time, he's crazy and just a pure douche, no ones going to want him for anything but an interview. He's funny because he's crazy, but it won't last that long and he'll still be a douche.
One minor league baseball team has invited Sheen and whomever he is dating at the time to come to their "Sheenco de Mayo" celebration. Winning!
The crazy part of this is that a sports talk radio show (the Dan Patrick Show) got all of this started. They heard about Sheen's comments to the UCLA baseball team and decided to get Sheen on. He came on and then came on the next two days. Then the thing snowballed from there.
In show business, any kind of publicity is good publicity. If it makes you look like the crazy, looney, nut bag... it's still going to land you a pay day with someone. Someone will always want to cover the story and pay for it. And as long as he knows people are talking about him, he's probably right where he wants to be.
What steer said, plus--my wife made a really great point about this stuff yesterday. She said that it's extremely likely that most celebs are like Sheen, maybe not quite as extreme--but they have camera awareness and will hide it when the TMZ's of the world are on hand. Sheen has always been like this she asserts, and has just gotten sick of hiding it. It's a solid conjecture.
He's a brilliant man, darn good actor--maybe he just wants to party and is done with all the PR butt-covering, and this is his way of embracing what he really wants.

Not really, that's sort of true when we're talking about someone trying to break into the business, not established stars. Did it help Mel Gibson? Tiger? Lohan? etc. etc. etc. Don't get me wrong, he can cash in on this in several ways from interviews to tweeting, but for his acting career? It's took a big hit IMO. He was already on top, like I said the highest paid person per episode in all of television...not anymore and it's because of this, so obviously it's not good for him and is hurting his career. The guy isn't that good of an actor, sorry, he's had his roles he played pretty well...but he's a legend in his own mind, his best performance has been 2 and a half men is definitely not worth the 3 million per sode he's demanded.
